Finally, only 10 months late and after the deadline for written submissions to the Parliamentary Health Committee, the GMC has published its report into the suicides associated with their Fitness to Practice Procedures

The whitewashed report showed  that doctors have a high suicide rate and the number of deaths associated with the GMC Fitness to Practice procedures was no more than you'd expect. These  doctors already have mental health problems, and suicide is inevitable.

However in 2013 the number of referrals to the GMC went up and so did the death rate, reaching an eye watering 20 deaths. This suggests a link between deaths and the GMC fitness to practice procedures.

Sandra Horsfall - National Patient Safety Executive - not exactly a disinterested or independent party! Hard to imagine she wasn't secretly rubbing her hands in glee at the thought of so many dead doctors.

Conclusions

1 - Lots of doctors under Fitness to Practice Procedures die, - 114 since 2005. Ten a year, year in year out. But only 28 of these deaths were described as suicide or likely to be suicide - the others, well Hey! people just die, don't they? No reason, they just keel over and that's it, dead as the budgie in Monty Python.  So what happened to the other 86 - no idea and who gives a toss?

2 - The GMC, because it has big responsibilities and is very busy, is not always as nice to doctors as it might be.

3 - Lets set up a Special Support Service for doctor and call it "Airy Fairy Land"  It won't cost that much and doctors are made of money. At worst, the GMC can add the cost of it to their annual registration fee. It would only be £22 a year, that is nothing. Then the GMC can pretend to be nice to doctors, even though they won't be. And the GMC's psychopathic behaviour can be rubber stamped

4 - Emotional Resiliency Training prevents suicide so lets make sure all medical students are lovely and resilient. "Evidence based medicine" I think not.


And of course, no mention of referring the GMC to the Health & Safety Executive or Court of Human Rights for Criminal Charges of Corporate Manslaughter.


Doctor Bloggs would like the following questions answered:

1) Does the GMC have any comment on the remaining 86 deaths during these five years, as this is a surprisingly large number of deaths associated with a supposedly benign process?

2) Do you have any comments on the adjacent actions in relation to any single death?

This is an anonymised case history of one such death. A young doctor in her early thirties, a consultant in a front line specialty, with bipolar disorder and other mental health problems, was due to return to work following a period of ill health. An email was sent by the GMC Fitness to Practice Directorate to her and her employers, three days before she was due to return work, indicating the GMC conditions on her registration had been changed, preventing her from returning to work. Within twentyfour hours of receiving this email, she had taken a fatal dose of drugs and died as a result of this overdose.

3) Are the GMC staff working within the Fitness to Practice Directorate aware that whoever sent that email may face criminal charges under Article 2 of the European Community Human Rights Ac?

4) Has the GMC considered that health of doctors, whilst the National Support Service is set up, is best managed by Occupational Health Physicians. This is the case with other Safety Critical professions such as pilots, train drivers and other emergency services, rather than invoking the stigma and discrimination that results from the involvement of a doctor’s regulatory body?

13 doctors dead and counting

Last year 13 doctors died whilst under investigation by the GMC Fitness to Practice Directorate. If the GMC were an cardiac intensive care unit, an army recruiting barracks ( eg Deep Cut) or a geriatric ward, there might be an inquiry.

Yet when the methods used by a institution which puts itself forward as a world class centre of regulation,  are, year after year, associated with a dozen or more deaths, no one comments. Such is the staunch hypocrisy of those now ensconced in the governing institutions of this county that only appearances matter. As long as the GMC is not mentioned on the death certificate, no one is going to hold them to account.

The General Medical Council determines good medical practice, investigates complaints and breaches of that code of conduct, prepares the investigation, prosecutes, sets up the panels that decide on the evidence, set the penalty and enforces the sanctions.

And that makes North Korea look like a democracy

Ming Vase - Doctor Bloggs denies GMC money laundering charges

Doctor Tracey Bloggs issued a statement denying any involvement with the recent £53m Ming Vase money laundering auction. In her statement Doctor Bloggs denied rumours that the GMC had brought charges concerning her involvement or that her registration has been suspended. In a dramatic counterclaim, Dr Tracey Bloggs said that the Ming Vase, "found in an attic" was a GMC scam to raise money for Fitness to Practice proceedings

The bill for Fitness to Practice proceeding now tops £128 million even before the Mid Staffs allegations are brought. Mid Staffs prosecutions are conservatively estimated to cost between £10 - 20 million, paid for with doctors' GMC subscriptions. As Doctor Bloggs says, "There are always plenty more where that came from."

Dr Shibbi Robati is the new Dr Bean

Despite repeated attempts of the GMC to keep a good man down, Channel 7 has offered the Dr Shibbi Robati the leading role in their new series Dr Bean and the NHS

How much did the GMC pay Alan Sugar?

The question on everyone's lips this morning after another nail biting episode of the Apprentice is "How much did the GMC pay Alan Sugar to fire Dr Shibby Robati?"

It is well known that once you attract the attention of the GMC you are damned to hell in this life and the next. Dr Shibby cannot be redeemed. He has been tried by the GMC and found lacking ergo - there can be no chance of a second career - in any field. He is doomed to spend the rest of this life and eternity in purgatory. That he wishes to make his purgatory public is to volunteer for the stocks. The GMC is thought to have slipped the Sun a few bob to draw attention to his GMC warning - as if he could pretend not to tell!!

Doctor Bloggs thought about writing to Professor Paul Philip suggesting that he is brought before the GMC again for failing to disclose his warning himself, instead of waiting for the Sun expose of "Sugar Baddies". After all, Dr Shibby Robati must tell all future employers about his GMC warning. He cannot be picky about who he tells. Luckily the Sun took the GMC bribe and brought it to the nation's attention. A life sentence is a life sentence, it is no good pretending the GMC doesn't hate you.

The bidding for the service excluded existing charities working in this area and led for example, to the closure of the Doctors Support Line, an anonymous confidential service already providing support for doctors.

Doctors risk their registration by approaching the Dr Clare Gerada and the PHP because the General Medical Council considers mental health difficulties within the profession as a regulatory offence.

Many trusts and employers will not employ doctors who have been before the General Medical Council, on principle, regardless of the circumstances of their referral. This means that the problems of doctors mental health continues to be driven underground.

A doctor can be struck off for being depressed. Even if they are not struck off, they face years of investigation and "supervision" by their regulatory body that leads to a worsening of their mental health and suicide. A doctor has to have a solicitor, a barrister and a Defence Body, go before the General Medical Council to "prove themselves of sane mind" In 2003/4 5% of doctors died who were under investigation by the General Medical Council for their mental health (9 of 214). If this death rate had occurred any where else, including an Intensive Care Unit, there would be investigation. After that, the General Medical Council stopped collecting the figures

The GMC is finally showing concern over the number of doctors who die whilst being investigation under Fitness to Practice procedures. I had an email from the GMC requesting further information about the GMC 9. This data comes from the Health Review Group set up by the GMC to look their Health Procedures. After which everyone patted themselves on the back and did nothing

Of 212 doctors under the Health procedure in 2003/4 9 died. Nothing has changed, and if the GMC death rate is no longer available, it has no bearing on the one doctor a week who kills themselves. Improving mental health is about making people feel better, about themselves, about the world and about the future. Nothing that has happened in the 10 years since Shipman has reassured either the public or doctors.


Like Voodoo, the force of the GMC depends on the fear it produces in its victims. Its numerous vested interests range from Harley Street, NHS and Private Practice consortium, the drug company mafia, NuLabour, Trusts, scientology, freemasonry, misogyny, the Tavistock Clinic, and common purpose. Once doctors realise that the GMC is nothing more than a corrupt bureaucracy held held together by fear and greed, there is not a lot to be bothered about.

As Dr Rita Pal says, the danger lies taking the GMC seriously. They only weapon is fear, and once that is gone, you can see them for what they are. Of course, it is hard fighting an organisation as warped the GMC. Their approach to Dr Raj Mattu provides ample evidence of their corrupt and unholy alliance with the Trusts.

And if you can stand having your life pored over, your clinical work examined in painstaking detail, your character assassinated and your reputation destroyed, you can stand up to the GMC and if you can treat the twin imposters of triumph and disaster just the same, the GMC has little hold on you.

Alternatively take your knowledge and skills where it is appreciated. Defrocked doctors do well in the complementary medical fields where their medical knowledge and experience are widely appreciated and many are now making a good living, in fields as diverse as Health Practitioners, Coaches, Live blood analysts, colonic therapists, nutritionists, and psychotherapists as well as running training courses in medical studies.

Dr Niall Dickson crowns Dr Jane Barton as the New GMC Miss Conduct beauty queen for 2010. To choose his Queen this early in the year, Dr Niall Dickson does not expect any serious competition to follow in her wake(s).

Indeed, we know very little about Dr Jane Barton, her family, her childhood in Guernsey, and why, like her father and brother Professor Christopher Bulstrode, she was inspired to be a doctor. Dr Jane Barton is a bold choice and a dark horse. With trouble looming for the GMC later in the year, Dr Niall Dickson has played his joker early.

British Medicine is as faulty as the GMC. Shipman was an iconic figurehead for the NHS. Death is the quick and easy solution. But death on the NHS is no longer a cheap option. We spend as much as the rest as Europe on healthcare but less on the elderly - who are normally the most expensive part of any healthcare budget. Where is the money going? not on patients but on a bureaucracy of "Health Care Professionals" and their controllers. Save money using the Liverpool Care Pathway or the Guernsey Care Pathway.

Predeterminations - The GMC expects every panel to do its bidding

If the GMC panel's are independent of the GMC, the GMC would not have a view of the possible outcome of the case. But that comment suggests that the GMC did have a view of outcome.

We know the GMC recruits panelists, selects panelists for each case, briefs them in advance, provides advice throughout cases, audits their verdicts and pays them between £300 and £500 a day


The GMC must decide the outcome in advance of the case because an adjudicator (The Panel) should not communicate with the investigator (The GMC).

Therefore - GMC panel verdicts are predetermined!

For those who know even a little law, this goes against every principle of natural justice.

We can therefore assume that the panellists were briefed to give the verdict they did

The Medical Protection Society (MPS) spends £43 million "defending" doctors
The Medical Defence Union (MDU) spends £23 million "defending" doctors

The GMC spends 42 million pounds a year prosecuting doctors in an elaborate charade that involves the top QCs in the country. Nothing but the best for Mssrs Naill Dickson and Peter Rubin. If you want to see this circus in action, the Wakefield case is on again. Free entry, Euston rd, running daily until summer. All because, ten years ago, the Lancet published a paper the drug companies didn't like.

Hardly surprising the public think the medical profession are in the hands of Big Pharma and the Vaccine Companies, especially after the swine flu fiasco.

The cost of a GMC hearing is about £100,000 on each side - whose making the profit here?

Lawyers of course!
Why would lawyers stop the gravy train? The nice doctors pay their wages. The more trouble you are in, the longer your hearing, the more the lawyers get paid. Why would they help? Its steady money as long as they don't rock the boat. One solicitor even sleeps in the same house as a legal employee of one defence society - hardly a "commercially neutral act".

Lawyers do not care that most doctors end up financially crippled, unemployable and mentally broken. Because a medical colleague didn't like you, because you picked a fight with big Pharma, because you had an episode of depression, or worst of all, you put your patients above management targets.

The MDU and MPS only want your subscriptions - once they have given the appearance of support, you are on your own and the GMC wants you broken and bankrupt.

If you want to be represented in your struggles with your employers and your regulatory body -
1 - get proper advice,
2 - make sure your household insurance covers legal costs,
3 - join a proper union like Unite

Don't waste your hopes, energy, time or chances of winning your case whilst the MDU or MPS are acting for you - it is not in their interests to defend you, but it is in their interests to keep the GMC sweet, after all, without the GMC where would they be?

Suspensions, Erasures and GMC hearings prior to 2001

URGENT - if you know any doctors whose licence to practice has been subjected to GMC Conditions, Suspension or Erasure, prior to 2001, please contact me urgently.

The GMC has admitted in open court that they used Predeterminations in cases prior to 2001, when computers were introduced. In other words, the panel Chairman decided the verdict before the hearing took place and by consequence, whatever happened in the hearing was, therefore irrelevant. You might as well have sung the National Anthem

This does not mean that they do not still decide the verdict in advance, it is just harder to prove.

Prior to 2001, the Predetermined Verdict was placed in the accused file. You need to get a Subject access request and then get a copy of your file from the GMC.

The High Court takes a dim view of Predeterminations. Justice Forbes does not like to see the legal process brought into disrepute.

It appears that not only, will there be further elections at the Royal Society of Medicine, but worse, Mr Catto, or Sir Graeme, as he is known to his friends did not win

Of course, the election was fixed. If George Bush can do it, so can Dr Parveen Kumar the new President of the Royal Society of Medicine. At this stage, all we can do is demand a recount.

We have received the following information, and we would like to apologise to anyone who may have sent a vote into the Royal Society of Medicine. It appears that all acceptable votes had been "counted", shredded, and the result declared before our campaign could get under way. This is outrageous and we are considering what steps to take to ensure democratic elections in the future. Both the BBC and ITV have been severely censored because vote fixing. Doctors - bullies at heart - Doctors Net UK

For those people who think that doctors have any consideration for the mentally ill, beyond getting them out of their clinics, the following story shows how it is today.

In an pseudo funny account of what happened to a deeply disturbed woman who interrupted his clinic, a well known doctor and medical tabloid columnist wrote, on a private medical forum, under the title "Acute Psychosis Fun"

It may seem funny to describe people in this way, but it reminds me of Victorian ladies, visiting the local asylum on a Sunday afternoon. It also reminds me of playground bullying. These doctors need to be brought before the General Medical Council for bringing the profession into disrepute.

The GMC prowls the pages of that private doctors forum, looking for those doctors who are naive enough to disclose their mental health problems or express opinions about Dame Carol Black.

But the GMC does not give a toss about attitudes to people with mental health problems. Try substituting the words "Paki" or "Gay" for psychotic and see how it reads. At least there is a law against that kind of abuse.

What is racist, homophobic, prejudiced and not the GMC?

Show trials whilst parading the bodies of the dead and living dead. GMC news reports the case of "a doctor didn't attend their GMC hearing". So you thought you could just walk away and the GMC wouldn't notice you had not attended to hear their verdict on your "misconduct"?

If you don't turn up for your execution, or defend yourself in their show trial, the GMC will erase you and publicly drag your body through the streets. The GMC will highlight your case in their "warnings to doctors" with enough details for your friends, family, future employers and anyone with an ounce of initiative to find your identity. They will send your corpse to every doctor in the land trussed up in a copy of GMC News.

The extra- quasi-judicial sanctions of the GMC include

Death
1 - By harrying you to suicide. In 2003/4; 9 of 215 doctors prior to any hearing quasi-judicial investigation by the GMC died, three at least, were through suicide

2 - Deaths, disease and marriage breakup secondary to the stress of drawn out proceedings where your life is laid bare for every newspaper to devour. Eaton published a paper around 2004 on the mortality and morbidity associated with GMC proceedings. It was in the region of 30%

Living death
1 - Financial ruin
The Defence Unions run out on you, leaving you with legal bills that would sink a Rothschild. The GMC using its member subscriptions can bet the bank and its reserves, to raise enough complaints against you, until you and your family are homeless and destitute

2 - Reputational Ruin
The GMC allows enough misinformation to leak into the newspapers, not least through its own barristers' innuendos, to make Max Moseley blush.

3 - Clinical Ruin
Modern Prescreening employment forms ensure that even a minor brush with the GMC means you never work again.

Judge Michael will be soon be sitting, and like Judge Judy, he rehears cases that come before the General Medical Council and gives his own verdict. If, for example, your colleagues will not cooperate with your assessment, without which you get struck off, it is understandable that a naive, newly qualified young doctor might do something, that with, hindsight was silly. No one died, and there is more to this case than meets the eye. Yet the GMC have paraded this parody before the nation. Disproportionate is the word that comes to mind.

Makes a nonsense of confidentiality

Cheer up love, you are better off without them. And the answer to my question - "you think of something, I cant."

Medical Defence Union and Medical Protection Society

How much are you as a doctor worth to an Medico Legal Adviser? If you use their solicitors your case is worth tens of thousands of pounds! And, in most professions, such a referral is worth 10% of the case fee.

How much are the defence unions, medical legal representatives paid? not a lot, 60 - 80 K with a bit more at the higher levels. Peanuts for a doctor in todays market.

Legal bills for the medical profession, between the GMC and solicitors and MDU are probably in the region of a 100 million pounds a year. I will do the exact calculation when I start investigating the behaviour of the defence unions and General Medical Council in more detail

Is someone getting a kickback? It looks as though they are. It smells as though they are. It feels as though they are. Because Medico legal advisers and MDU solicitors truss doctors up like they were chickens in the queue for the supermarket. The solicitors want Capability Hearings, they want GMC hearings. This is their steady income. More often than not, you are better off with without a solicitor than one from the MDU.

Follow the money

There has to be a reason for this behaviour. And the reason is usually money. Perhaps the solicitors are even paying the Trust representatives. Once greed gets into a system, it is like water, there is no stopping the flow.

If you use MDU legal services, look at what is happening to you very carefully. Is it is in your best interests?

In the meantime, the GMC just sit back and prepare for their Sunday roast, and lo and behold! The bird arrives gutted, filleted and ready to cook
