Guy Fawkes Night at Lewes

I spent last night in Lewes - watching the processions, bands, bonfires and fireworks of pagan Britain, or at least protestant Britain. It is the kind of occasion that everyone who is British should attend at least once in their life time. Effigies of the pope, of Guy Fawkes, of George Bush and various other characters were paraded through the town, along rivers of fire, burning crosses, and standards, marchers in disguise and marching bands, and then burnt on bonfires throughout the night, all with liberal numbers of bangers or 'rookies'.

Luckily this is a protestant festival, but I couldn't help wondering what would happen if it were a muslim festival and the muslims were burning flags, effigies of the pope? On the other hand, should we now celebrate other foiled suicide bombers such as the Shoe Bomber and the Drink bombers, who brought British Air traffic to a standstill for a month and did more for the Kyoto treaty than George Bush or Tony Blair? The protestant-catholic struggle was the muslim-christian struggle of its time.

Will a political multicultural racially integrated society resolve this clash of civilisations or will we be burning effigies of Osama Bin Laden in 400 years time?

Dear Liz Miller: I watched the news last night and one of the lead stories was about a young kid of only 4 being diagnosed with clinical depression by her GP. Can this be true? Can a child or baby actually be depressed at that early age and need drugs? Sincerely yours, Mr. M. O'Sullivan (County Antrim) PS. I like your website, I found it on the net the other day whilst searching for info on depression treatment
