Time for a holiday! Fionnphort, in Scotland

Some friends and I stayed in a lovely self-catering holiday cottage in Fionnphort on the Isle of Mull in the early autumn, and as thoughts turn to planning holidays, we're thinking about booking it again for the summer. It had a nice little kitchen and en-suite bathrooms, as well as a proper solid-fuel stove for heat and hot water. The view from the dining room was absolutely stunning: the Isle of Iona, and we'd watch the sun set over it every evening whilst eating dinner.

It was just so nice to get away from it all and do things like whale-watching (we even saw a basking shark!), and we took a trip to the Isle of Staffa and Fingal's Cave, which were spectacular. There's a regular ferry service from Fionnphort to the Isle of Iona, with its Abbey. The history there is fascinating - it was founded by St Columba as a monastery in 653, and a lot of ancient Scottish nobles are buried there. Fionnphort's a nice little friendly place, too - good pub with excellent food, friendly local shop, etc.

If you want to get far from the madding crowd and still have the comforts of home, I'd recommend it: Click here www.fionnphort-cottage.com (you can see the view from the dining room window on their website.) Tell them Dr Bloggs prescribed you a visit!
